ミッションステートメント　その３

前回よりも力を充実させて牡鹿半島へ赴き、日本財団・ヒューマンシールド・oshika漁協の人たちと力を合わせ、あちこちにちらばった漁具を回収し、海岸線沿いとそれぞれの港のがれきを撤去すること。

The effort:活動内容

午後11時ごろに車5台という体制で京都を出発し、チーム・サケと共に北を目指し、仙台市郊外へと移動しました。その夜眠れた人はいなかったと思います。特にドライバーは絶対眠れなかったと思います。チーム・サケの車に乗っていたうちの2人が私たちのグループに加わり、その後更に北を目指しているチーム・サケの２台の車に別れを告げ、私たちは石巻市を抜けて牡鹿半島に向かい、そこから直接、小渕浜の町へ行きました。 そこはもとは180軒の町だったのに、今は30軒しか残っていません。私たちは午後の早い時刻に到着したので、テントをはる前にさっと道具を下ろして、牡蠣の加工施設のがれき撤去を始めました。その施設は港に面していて大きな打撃を受けていました私たちは、全くの手作業で機材や装置を掘り起こしたり泥やがれきを運び出したりしながら、どうやらこうやら奥まったところにある２つの部屋のほとんどをきれいにしました。それと同時に、石巻市内で働いていた大工仲間の友達がきてくれて、Sさんのためにバスルームを完成することで話が一致しました。Sさんは、私たちが前に来たときに置いていった道具や釘を使って、ガレージを広くしていました。その夜、私たちはささやかな装備を組み立てて、男子は駐車場の隅で、女子はかなり不気味が森に少し入ったところに寝ることになりました。]]>IDRO Japan's third relief trip to the Oshika Peninsulauser@domain.comNone2011-05-11T14:50:34+09:00http://www.idrojapan.org/blog/files/7f322b6703b6b592689e5b59dae6d853-7.html#unique-entry-id-7http://www.idrojapan.org/blog/files/7f322b6703b6b592689e5b59dae6d853-7.html#unique-entry-id-7
The Goal:

To move in force to the Oshika peninsula for a joint effort with the Nippon Foundation, Human Shield and the Oshika Fishing Cooperative to gather scattered fishing equipment and clean the shorelines and ports of debris.

The effort:

We departed Kyoto roughly 11 pm in a group of five vehicles, moving north with Team Sake to the outskirts of Sendai City. I doubt if anyone really got any sleep that night, certainly not the drivers. Two persons who had ridden in the vehicle with Team Sake joined us and we said goodbye to two of their vehicles going north, and took the road through Ishinomaki to the Oshika Peninsula, where we went directly to the Town of Kobuchi Hama -originally a town of 180 homes; 30 remain. We arrived in the early afternoon and before setting up camp we immediately unloaded tools and began cleaning an oyster processing facility heavily damaged along the port. We managed most of the two back rooms, digging out the equipment and carting out the mud and debris entirely by hand. At the same time a carpenter friend who had been working in Ishinomaki came out and agreed to complete a bathroom for Mr. S who had been working on expanding his garage with tools and nails we had left him on the last trip. That night we set up our little compound, boys on the edge of the parking lot and women just inside the very creepy forest bordering.

To move from Kyoto to Ishinomaki and then further into the affected area to:

  1. Distribute carpentry tools to those rebuilding
  2. Gather direct information through experience to share with those wishing to go to the Tohoku region and volunteer over the Golden Week holiday and beyond
  3. Begin the process of creating habitable homes and community centers for those lost in the region.

They called this morning to report on how things were going. The conversation was short, but Rob wanted to give a big SHOUT OUT to the Japanese Self Defense Forces. He said,

“I can’t say enough about the job these guys (Japanese Self-Defense Forces) are doing.”

From the conversation, I got the gist that he is very impressed with what has been done since his first relief trip to the region just weeks ago.

The two loaded a van with supplies and building materials including hammers, hand saws, tape measures, sledge-hammers, brooms, circular saws, grinders, drills, nails and rain gear. The plan is to distribute the supplies where needed, as well as offer clean-up assistance in the affected areas.

Below is a report written by Rob.

Mission statement:
To move from Kyoto to Sendai, and from there enter the affected area in order to:
1.     Distribute food, clothing and toiletries
2.     Gather information for future relief efforts
3.     Be self sufficient
4.     NOT get in the way or otherwise hamper the efforts of others
 
The effort:
Despite many difficulties we were finally on the highway at about 2 AM.  Gasoline was a most certain issue. We packed 60 liters of extra fuel in the vehicle, topping off at every point possible on route beyond Toyama city. This became obviously necessary when we found from Aizu Wakamatsu on, fuel purchases were limited to 2,000 yen at the only station open.

We drove nonstop, arriving in Sendai about 1 pm the following day.]]>
